The Hawks flew to Adelaide on Friday in preparation for their clash with a Crows team weakened by a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament rupture to their spearhead. But Clarkson said Walker's replacement Shaun McKernan should not be treated lightly.

Stats that matter
Sewell to return for Crows clash

The Hawks have named veteran Brad Sewell and former Cat Jonathan Simpkin for the twilight clash with Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Saturday. The pair replaces injured forward Cyril Rioli and Shane Savage.

The Hawks are ranked equal-first in the AFL for percentage of goals per Inside 50m, registering a goal with nearly one third (31.3%) of their forward entries. They are also ranked second in the League for effective disposals, hitting a target with 72.7% of their touches.

Hawthorn is averaging 17.8 goals a game in 2013, secondly only to Essendon (18.6).

Adelaide fielded 11 players with fewer than 50 games of experience on Saturday. Only Greater Western Sydney (17), Gold Coast (16) and the Western Bulldogs (16) had more players under 50 games in Round Five. Only five Crows had played more than 100 games in the team that lost to Carlton.

Defender Andy Otten kicked a personal best three goals in a cameo role in attack last weekend, almost doubling his career tally (seven) in a single game. Matthew Jaensch also equalled his career-best haul of three goals against the Blues.

Brett Burton holds the record for most Crows goals in a game against Hawthorn. The ‘Birdman’ slotted seven against the Hawks at AAMI Stadium in Round 15, 2006.

Despite being down in contested ball numbers on last season, Adelaide is still ranked fifth in the competition for contested possession (150.4 average per game). The Club also sits fifth in tackles, averaging 64.4 a game.

Hawks midfielder Sam Mitchell is sixth in the AFL for total disposals (148), three ahead of teammate Grant Birchall (147). Scott Thompson leads the way for Adelaide on 136 disposals – ranked 13th. Birchall leads the League in effective kicks (75) and is second in uncontested possession (110) and handball receives (72).

Patrick Dangerfield is fifth in the competition in hard-ball gets (32).

Richard Douglas has generated the same number of inside 50ms this season as Hawthorn star Cyril Rioli (29), ranked top-10 in the AFL. Douglas is also equal-fifth in goal assists.

In the Mix: Hawthorn – AFL.com.au
After being trounced by North Melbourne in clearances and contested possession on Sunday, the Hawks will welcome Brad Sewell back from his hamstring injury. The seasoned midfielder must pass a fitness test, but is expected to be available. NAB AFL Rising Star nominee Jed Anderson is possibly another week away with his hamstring strain, but Taylor Duryea should be fit after missing last week with a corked thigh. Mitch Hallahan, Jonathan Simpkin and Matt Spangher all featured in Box Hill's best on the weekend.

Rioli hamstrung until after bye – AFL.com.au
CYRIL Rioli has suffered a high-grade hamstring tear and will be out until at least after Hawthorn's bye in round 11. The All Australian small forward had scans on Monday morning after going down during the last quarter of Sunday's three-point win over North Melbourne. Fronting the media early on Monday afternoon, the disappointed 23-year-old said he would take a cautious approach in his recovery, having experienced persistent hamstring issues in the past.
