News Bites
Swans speedster to miss Crows clash
Recently elevated rookie Brandon Jack will make his AFL debut this Saturday against the Adelaide Crows at AAMI Stadium, while forward Jesse White will also return to the side. Jack comes into the team in place of Lewis Jetta, who will miss the match with shin soreness, while White replaces Tommy Walsh, who suffered a season-ending hamstring injury in last weekend’s win over Essendon.

Injury forces Mattner into early retirement – AFL.com.au
DEFENDER Marty Mattner, one of the Sydney Swans' most durable players throughout his career, has been forced to retire immediately due to an ongoing issue with his hip. The 30-year-old, who joined the Swans from Adelaide ahead of the 2008 season, played 117 of a possible 119 games over five seasons with the club, including last year's premiership. But he struggled with the hip problem throughout the pre-season, still managing to play the opening seven games of this year, but has since been forced to sit out the past three.

In the Mix: SYDNEY SWANS – AFL.com.au
Injuries are becoming a real issue for the Swans, although results indicate otherwise. Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Rhyce Shaw, Sam Reid, Alex Johnson, Marty Mattner and now Tommy Walsh are all on the sidelines, with the latter tearing his hamstring off the bone against Essendon, finishing his season. Tom Mitchell slotted in seamlessly for his debut on Saturday and will retain his place this week. Jesse White will also make the flight as he inches closer to his second appearance of 2013, with Jed Lamb and Tony Armstrong also in the mix. Saturday's game also marks the final week of Kurt Tippett's suspension.

Walsh’s season over as Swans’ injuries grow – AFL.com.au
TOMMY Walsh has been ruled out for the season, Rhyce Shaw is still at least a month away and Marty Mattner is no certainty for the Sydney Swans' trip to Adelaide to face the Crows this week. Kurt Tippett also won't be on the flight back to his old club, or be subjected to a hostile Crows crowd, instead remaining in Sydney to continue preparations for his expected return in round 13.
