The AFL trade period is expected to heat up as the Friday deadline approaches.

The trade period, which closes at 1:30pm (SA time) on Friday, is in its third week.

Crow Bernie Vince joined Melbourne in the last deal lodged with the AFL last week. Adelaide accepted pick No.23 from the Demons in exchange for Vince.

The trade between the Sydney Swans and Greater Western Sydney for ruckman Shane Mumford was also finalised. The Giants handed over pick No.39 to secure the Swans premiership player.

GWS was also involved in the biggest deal of the trade period so far, negotiating a swap that will see the Giants hold pick No.1 and No.2 in next month’s AFL National Draft.

The Giants gave up young midfielder Dom Tyson as well as picks No.9 and No.53 in exchange for pick Nos.2, 20 and 72 from Melbourne. Tyson, who has been hampered by injuries in his time in Western Sydney, was originally selected with No.3 in the 2011 draft.

Melbourne further bolstered its midfield depth last week, securing Fremantle midfielder Viv Michie for pick No.54.

Carlton and Richmond completed the first deal of the trade period, which officially started on Monday, October 7. Shaun Hampson is now a Tiger after the Blues accepted a second-round pick (currently No.28) in exchange for the athletic ruckman/forward.

Ben McEvoy and Shane Savage also found new homes last week. McEvoy has joined Hawthorn, while Savage is now a Saint. The Hawks also gave up their first-round selection (currently No.17) to secure talented young ruckman, McEvoy.
