ADELAIDE could unveil its sixth debutant of the season, key position prospect Phil Davis, when it does battle with Hawthorn on Friday night at the MCG.

Davis has been close to selection for several weeks after performing well at both ends of the field for North Adelaide in the SANFL.

The 18-year-old was recruited from North Adelaide and taken with the Crows first pick [No.10] at the 2008 NAB AFL Draft.

He could be come into the team if Brett Burton fails to recover from a corked glute.

Burton is rated only a 50-50 chance for Friday night and to compound Adelaide's woes, the club still hasn’t put a time frame on Nathan Bock’s return from a heel injury.

The Crows were also hopeful David Mackay, who injured his hamstring against St Kilda in round 16, would be fit to take on the Hawks.

But the dashing midfielder failed to join his teammates for Tuesday night’s main training session.

Patrick Dangerfield [back] will attempt to increase his workload later in the week, but is also unlikely to make the trip to Melbourne.

Swingman Scott Stevens is expected to line-up on Hawthorn match-winner Lance Franklin rather than fill the potential void up forward left by Burton.

Trent Hentschel, who is three games back from his latest injury setback is also under consideration as is first-year player Rory Sloane.

Adelaide onballer Nathan van Berlo admitted the loss of Bock, in particular, had hurt the side.

"The last couple of weeks we’ve had some tough injuries to key players. We’d love to have Nathan out there with the forward line Hawthorn’s got, but we’re confident in the guys we’ve got down back and the other personnel in the side that we’re able to shuffle around and get a match-up we think will be suitable come Friday night," van Berlo said.

"We’ve also got some good young guys playing very good football in the SANFL at the moment, so that’s gives us confidence as a team and no doubt gives the match committee confidence that whoever they pick will come in and play their role."

The Crows have come up short in games against St Kilda, Geelong and Collingwood over the past month, but van Berlo said his side would stick to its game plan going into the final three rounds of the season.

"There’s a difference between saying we haven’t beaten a top-four side and that we can’t do it. The confidence in the group is such that our best is certainly good enough to beat any side in the competition and we’re not wavering from that," he said.

"We’ll go into this week’s game against Hawthorn, who are no doubt a real threat, knowing that our best will get us the result we want and deserve."
