Adelaide has made one change for its clash with Sydney at the SCG on Saturday night, recalling star forward Jason Porplyzia from injury.

Porplyzia was a late withdrawal from the team to play Port Adelaide last weekend after straining his deltoid muscle at training.

The 27-year-old passed a final fitness test on Thursday morning and returns to the side at the expense of defender Andy Otten, who has been omitted.

Skipper Nathan van Berlo was substituted out of Balfours Showdown XXXII with a corked thigh, but has recovered well and will take his place in the team to tackle the unbeaten Swans.

Coach Brenton Sanderson said Porplyzia had ticked all the boxes in his recovery from a muscle strain.

“Being a six-day break, we didn’t do much competitive work on the track on Wednesday and ‘Porps’ just need to do his own private fitness test on Thursday morning,” Sanderson told afc.com.au.

“He did a little bit of wrestling and strength work through his shoulder just to ensure it was right to go and he got through no worries.

“It’s not a like-for-like swap with Porps and ‘Otto’, but Porps is certainly in our best 22, so we’ll shuffle up our side a little bit. Unfortunately, ‘Otto’ misses out again, but he’s got a great attitude. He’ll go back and play well for South Adelaide and, hopefully, we’ll see him back in the side really soon.”

This week will be Adelaide’s first trip to Sydney since round 17, 2008.

A number of the Club’s young stars including midfielder Patrick Dangerfield are yet to play at the venue, and Sanderson said the team would have a light run at the ground on Friday in preparation for the match.

“The SCG is a unique ground because it’s not really oval-shaped, it’s circular,” he said.

“The quickest way to goal is obviously down the middle, but you can get lost on the wings. Sydney has the benefit of playing there every second week. We’ll have a bit of a look tomorrow to familiarise ourselves with the dimensions because quite a few of the guys wouldn’t have played there before.”
