ADELAIDE midfielder Bernie Vince says the Crows must learn to win without its elder statesmen Simon Goodwin and Andrew McLeod.

After Sunday’s Showdown loss, Vince said Adelaide’s finals aspirations were almost finished.

“It’s mathematically possible, it keeps the door open a little bit, but it makes it real difficult now,” he said

“We have to win every game for the rest of the year.”

The Crows struggled without the veteran pair and Vince said the impact of their absence could not be measured.

“You can’t put a price on losing that sort of experience,” he said.

“But we have to win without them and until we can do that we’re not good enough.”

Adelaide had more scoring shots than the Power but missed several opportunities to create scoreboard pressure.

Young forwards Taylor Walker and Ricky Henderson in particular struggled in front of goal, with Walker kicking two goals and five behinds.

Vince was kept to 18 possessions and three clearances by Port Adelaide’s Kane Cornes and says it has taken him a while to learn to handle the close attention.

“It’s a bit of a different role for me getting tagged most weeks - it's not so much touches possession wise, it’s more the little things, the pressure skills I can put on the opposition.”

Scott Thompson (25 possessions and four clearances) worked tirelessly all game while Rory Sloane (two goals) continued to show his promising future.

The Crows fought back early in the final term but Vince said Port Adelaide were too strong around the contests.

“The loose ball that came out, they seemed to be first on it,” he said.

Adelaide must now win next week's clash against Richmond at the MCG to have any hope of reaching September. After that, its run home includes top-four teams Collingwood, the Western Bulldogs and St Kilda.
