While Adelaide’s Gold Coast training camp has been a rigorous training week, it has provided the players a rare chance for a team bonding experience.

Local boy Kurt Tippett managed to spend some time with family and friends and also show his team mates around his old stomping ground.

afc.com.au caught up with the tall forward to see how the week went...

Kurt, it must have been good to be able to head up to the Gold Coast and see some family and friends?
“Yeah, it was obviously great to get up here for a week being a local boy so I got to catch up with some family and friends and it was good to get a bit of Mum’s home cooking as well! A few of the boys were able to come around and have a nice dinner and we had a really good night at my place.

“The boys are heading back to Adelaide today and I’m staying until Sunday which will give me an opportunity to see some friends and relax at home for a while. We’ve got a barbie planned as well so that should be good.”

Did you have anything special planned while you’re up there?

“I think it was just a really good opportunity to get away with the group and do a bit of team bonding. You get to know the guys really well and especially the younger guys. It was good that it worked out to be in my home town and I got to see some family as well. We got to go to Byron Bay on the day off as well so that was definitely a highlight.”

The squad trained at your old stomping ground at Southport. Would have been a while since you had a kick there?
“It has been a while since I’ve had a kick at Southport and it was great to have a run there. The ground was in great nick and it was a really good environment for us to have a good training camp so it worked out well.”

How was training this week?

“The weather conditions made it pretty tough. It was pretty humid on Tuesday and it was hot again on Thursday for the other session, so the weather made it hard. But the training went really well, the boys applied themselves, so the week has been a success.”

How is the body feeling?
“Yeah, I’m feeling good. Had a few niggling problems recently so I got some exercises to help me get rid of those, but I’m no worries now and I’m really looking forward to playing next week. I can’t wait to get out and have a crack. I’ve done all the training and put in the work so it will be great to get a game under my belt.”
