The 2022 AFLW season start date has been pushed back until January.

Season six of the AFLW competition will now kick off on the weekend of January 6-9, after originally being slated to begin in December.

The decision to delay the start of the new season was made to provide flexibility and avoid any disruption with the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, while maintaining the health and safety of players and the wider community.

Adelaide Head of Women’s Football Phil Harper said the Club was supportive of the move to start the season in January.

“All clubs were consulted about changing the start date of the AFLW season to try and avoid players having to quarantine over Christmas,” Harper said.

“We all agreed on pushing the date back and look forward to starting the 2022 season in January.”
