Adelaide fell to Sturt by 21 points in tough conditions at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.

Schoenberg flicks the switch

The midfielder came on as the medical sub during the final quarter of Adelaide's AFL side's 31-point win over West Coast and Schoenberg backed it up playing for the SANFL side 40 minutes later.

Schoenberg was thrown straight into the middle where he fought hard in a contested SANFL game, finishing with 18 disposals, nine tackles, six clearances and four inside 50’s.

SANFL Coach Michael Godden was impressed with Schoenberg’s ability to give maximum effort after playing in two games.

“It was a long day for Harry, we were really pleased with what Harry did,” Godden said.

“He competed really well through the midfield and gave us a spark in what was a pretty dull and slow game.”

Worrell up for the fight

Josh Worrell embraced the wet weather, competing hard from the opening bounce.

Worrell tackled with ferocity, put his body on the line when the ball was to be won and spoiled anything that came near him,

“It was tough conditions for all players with the ball skidding around a bit,” Godden said.

“He (Worrell) won a number of one on ones and obviously there are still things to work on, but he contributed well.”

Worrell finished the game with 22 touches, five tackles, three inside 50’s and six rebound 50’s.

Himmelberg gives his all

Elliott Himmelberg played a team game and worked hard to switch the momentum in  Adelaide's favour.

Despite Sturt locking the ball in their forward half multiple times throughout the game, Himmelberg capitalised on his chances when they presented, kicking two goals.

Himmelberg also amassed 14 touches and eight tackles.

“As a key forward, it was a nightmare of a night with those conditions,” Godden said.

“For him to continue to compete and put himself in the contest was all we could ask.”

Strachan the Warrior

Kieran Strachan led the way for Adelaide in the ruck, continuing his strong form in a stoppage heavy game.

It was not just his work at the contest that was impressed but his ability to cover the ground and present a target, according to Godden.

Strachan had 17 touches, four marks, six tackles, seven clearances, 48 hit-outs and seven inside 50’s.

“He is a warrior and he worked really hard again,” he said.

“At the contest he gave us a fair few first looks but his around the groundwork we really liked.”

Cook earns more midfield time

Brayden Cook showed his ability to play as both an inside and an outside midfielder, proving how vesicle he could be.

Cook provided some class when he sold some candy and then dribbled the ball from the boundary for a goal during the second quarter.

The midfielder finished with 19 disposals, eight tackles and five clearances.

“He played a little bit more midfield tonight, played inside and we had a look at him in there,” Godden said.

“He hasn’t really done any inside mid work, so it was a good opportunity for him to do that on a tough night.”

There will be no SANFL action for Adelaide next weekend, with the team having a bye.

The Crows next game will be against West Adelaide at Richmond Oval on Saturday, June 18, with the first bounce at 1.10pm.
