Adelaide defender Nick Murray knows it will take a strong effort from the Crows’ backline to halt Carlton’s key forwards this Saturday night.

The Crows are preparing to take on the Blues at Adelaide Oval, with Murray wary of star forwards including Harry McKay and  Charlie Curnow.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Murray said a strong team defence would be needed to stop the dangerous pair.

“They’re (Harry McKay and Charlie Curnow) obviously two very good forwards,” Murray said.

“They’re tall, they’re athletic, they’re quick, they have a lot of attributes.

“Hopefully Jordon (Butts) and I can nullify them, come Saturday night.

“I think just (being) aggressive on the body, not letting them run and jump at the ball.

“It’ll depend on pressure up the field, hopefully we can force them to (the) post then Buttsy and I and Tom can sort of help each other out, come across and intercept.”

Hailing from southern New South Wales, Murray joined the Crows’ list as a rookie via the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period last year.

He has since played 25 AFL games, including 12 so far this season.

Murray said he was always trying to improve his craft as he aimed to become a mainstay in Adelaide’s defensive unit.

“It’s been good to get some consistent form,” Murray said.

“Obviously early in the year I came back through the SANFL after playing the first two rounds and was working on my craft, then was able to get an opportunity against Brisbane.

“The more games you play, the more comfortable you are.

“You definitely do take time to go back and reflect on how big of a two years it’s been for me, but I’m really enjoying the journey and excited for what’s to come.”

Adelaide plays Carlton at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, with the first bounce at 7pm.
