The details for the 2023 AFLW Sign and Trade Period have been released.

On Monday, the AFL finalised the terms for the player movement period, slating it to run from Friday, March 10, to Monday, March 20.

Last year's four expansion clubs - Essendon, Hawthorn, Port Adelaide and Sydney - have also been given a window to sign players earlier, called the "priority signing period" (PSP), from March 1-8.

A player qualifies as a PSP signing if they have played three or more AFLW seasons and crucially, a trade does not need to be completed for the player to move clubs.

The AFLW's list committee will determine any relevant compensation, which could include draft picks ahead of AFLW Season Nine in 2024.

Clubs that finished first-fourth post-finals (Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and North Melbourne) could lose up to five players during the PSP period.

The AFL also confirmed clubs would not have to make a minimum of three changes to their list as has been the case in the past.

The start date for Season Eight is still yet to be confirmed.
