Adelaide’s AFLW team will head to the Barossa Valley this weekend for a three-day pre-season training getaway.

Players will arrive at Kapunda on Thursday evening for team dinner, before participating in a football and weights session the following morning.

Speaking to AFC Media, AFLW Head of Football Phil Harper said the pre-season trip would be a great opportunity for the team to build connections on and off the field.

“There will be a solid training session on Saturday morning but the rest will be a bit of fun and getting to know each other a bit better,” Harper said.

“Especially for the new girls, this is a really great opportunity for them to get to know each other.

“You get to know each other over the last six weeks in pre-season training but to be able to have some downtime and room with them while we are away for a couple of nights will be perfect.”

The weekend will also include a mix of team bonding activities such as lawn bowls, a talent show and attending the Crows’ State League match at Nuriootpa Oval.

Harper said players were looking forward to heading to the Barossa Valley and supporting the SANFL side.

“The reason we chose the Barossa is our SANFL team is playing up at Nuriootpa on the weekend and we thought we could link in by supporting them,” Harper said.

“They (the SANFL team) support our girls so we want to support them too.

“It's a great opportunity to show them support by ending the weekend at their game against Central District.”

The 2023 AFLW Season kicks off in the first weekend of September, with the full fixture set to be released soon.
