Adelaide Senior Coach Matthew Nicks has given an insight into some early selection news ahead of this weekend’s clash against West Coast.

The Crows will finish its 2023 AFL campaign against the Eagles in Perth this Saturday.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Nicks ruled out veteran Rory Sloane after he suffered an eye injury in last week’s game against Sydney, while forward Shane McAdam will also miss after having surgery to repair a fractured cheekbone.

“Shane won’t play this week, obviously,” Nicks said.

“Sloaney will (also) not play.

“We just won’t take a risk around that especially with the history Sloaney has had around the eyes.

“That gives the opportunity for a couple of other players who are going to come in really hungry.”

Following strong SANFL form, Lachlan Gollant is a likely replacement for McAdam according to Nicks.

The forward has averaged 2.6 goals a game this season in the State League - including booting 16 goals in the past four games.

“If you are thinking about possible ins, Lachie Gollant is more than likely going to play this week because he just deserves to come in,” Nicks said.

“His form has been so strong at SANFL level.

“With Shane going out, Lachie is a player who has had his hand up for a period of time.

“The other position will then be determined on what we decide to do around the footy and at half-back.”

Adelaide will aim to finish its season on a positive note, with Nicks labeling it as “an important game for setting the side up for 2024”.

“Our focus is on what the challenge will be this week, which is West Coast who have found form,” Nicks said.

“They have had a really tough year with injury and they have gone through some really hard times.

“They are back playing some of their best footy, they are taking the game on.

“They looked like a different side last week with the way they moved the footy, so we will have our challenges this week.”

Adelaide takes on West Coast at Optus Stadium on Saturday at 7:40pm (ACST).
