Adelaide AFLW Premiership star Caitlin Gould says she is enjoying the switch from ruck to the forward line but believes she still has plenty to learn.

Gould starred in the Crows’ Round Two win against Richmond at IKON Park on Friday night, booting three goals, to go with five marks and 17 hit-outs.

Speaking to the media on Monday, the 24-year-old said she was relishing a position change in 2023, as the Crows looked to better their Preliminary Final exit in Season Seven.

“I’m loving it,” Gould said.

“It’s obviously a new role for me this season, but it’s been a great challenge.

“To add that element to my game has been great and then to have the likes of DP (Danielle Ponter), EJ (Eloise Jones) and Randy (Chelsea Randall)  - to gain the experience through them has been awesome.”

“It’s obviously a new role for me this season, but it’s been a great challenge.

Gould, who played a pivotal role in the ruck during Adelaide’s Season Six flag, said the forwards had trained hard during pre-season to build connection and cohesiveness.

“It’s about working together as a forward unit,” Gould said.

“Playing in the ruck is a completely different position, so I’ve just been learning the way they move the ball in the forward line - that’s been a big thing for me.

“Getting a few goals has been good, but I like giving goal assists - it’s been a lot of fun.”

Gould also heaped praise on Ponter, after she kicked an incredible goal from the centre circle.

“It does not surprise me at all that she kicked a goal like that,” Gould said.

“It went over my head and over EJ’s head and we just looked over at each other and were like ‘are you kidding me?’

“It was so good.”

Adelaide is looking to make it three wins from three games when they take on Essendon at Unley Oval this Saturday afternoon.

It will mark the first time the Crows have come up against the Bombers and Gould was expecting a tough challenge.

“We are doing really well with a strong start to the season but we still have plenty to learn.” Gould said.

“Essendon has had a strong start to the season as well, they’ve won both of their games, so it will be a tough contest and we are excited to come up against them this weekend.”

Adelaide plays Essendon at Unley Oval on Saturday at 2.35pm.
