Inclusivity is at the heart of Adelaide’s 2023 Pride guernsey which will be worn this weekend for the Club’s Round 10 match against West Coast, as part of celebrations for AFLW Pride Round.

AFLW Pride Round, which is being celebrated across the final weekend of the home and away season, recognises and supports the LGBTQIA+ community by showcasing inclusiveness, gender diversity and welcoming of all people.

This season marks the fourth occasion the League will hold a dedicated Pride Round and this year’s guernsey, which was designed in conjunction with Adelaide’s AFLW players, is an adaptation of the Club’s original rainbow Pride design with the addition of the colours of the Progressive Pride Flag to include groups who have sometimes been underrepresented in pride celebrations.

Light blue, pink and white stripes have been added to represent trans and non-binary individuals, as well as brown and black stripes to represent people of colour in the LGBTQIA+ community.

Adelaide forward Eloise Jones spoke about the importance of the Round.

“It’s a special occasion and something our playing group and wider Club is proud to support and celebrate,” Jones said.

“We’re certainly looking forward to pulling on the guernsey and hoping to do everyone proud and get the win for our last match of the home and away season.”

Defender Kiera Mueller said it was great to see the colours of the progressive flag included in this year’s design.

“It’s all about sharing the message of inclusivity for all and making sure people are aware that it doesn’t matter who you are or where you are from, there is always a place for you at our Club,” she said.

“The Club’s vision has long been about connection and bringing people together and I think Pride Round continues to create that legacy and foster an inclusive environment for all within the football community and beyond.”

The guernsey is available for purchase here.

Adelaide will take on West Coast at Mineral Resources Park in Perth on Saturday, November 4 at 4.35pm ACDT.
