Adelaide is joining the fight against MND by staging the first SA Freeze at Adelaide Oval next month.

To be held on the night of the Crows’ Round 13 game against Richmond on Thursday, June 6, SA Freeze will kick-start a big weekend for FightMND which culminates with the 10th anniversary of the Big Freeze at the MCG on the King’s Birthday Monday.

The SA Freeze will include a celebrity dunking, similar to the Big Freeze slide at the MCG, and footy fans will be encouraged to help raise vital funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) research and care initiatives by purchasing a Big Freeze 10 Beanie.

Crows CEO Tim Silvers said the Club was proud and excited to be supporting this year’s event which has the theme ‘Don’t Say. Do’.

“That’s taken from the great Neale Daniher who says, 'It’s not what you say, but what you do that matters', and we are thrilled to be doing our bit to help in the fight against this horrible disease,” Silvers said.

“We’ve all watched the Big Freeze event at the MCG grow into one of the highlights of the football calendar and we are confident not just footy fans but the broader community in Adelaide will get right behind it here as well.

“It’s shaping up to be a massive weekend as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Big Freeze and we can’t wait to kick-start it at Adelaide Oval on June 6.”

FightMND Director of Campaigns, Bec Daniher, said the partnership with the Crows would bring researchers a step closer to a cure for the beast that is MND.

"We’ve fearlessly fought the Beast for 10 years, but there’s more to do. We know that investing in research continues to be our best weapon but it’s expensive and takes time," Daniher said.

"We are so grateful for the army of South Australians who continue to support the cause. Our fight is not over but we know that with every beanie sold and donation made, we are moving closer to the end goal of effective treatments and a cure.

“The Beast that is MND is getting nervous, we are fighting back. When Adelaide Oval turns blue, we are showing everyone who is impacted by MND that that there are people in every corner of the nation helping to make a change.”

Adelaide will also launch an SA Freeze Membership - which includes a Big Freeze 10 Beanie, a reserved seat at the game and general admission access to another two Crows home games.

50% of the Membership fees will be donated to Fight MND.
