For Adelaide Captain Jordan Dawson, there is one thing he believes will give the Crows an advantage during Showdown 58 - and it’s not an on-field edge.
Dawson says a packed Adelaide Oval filled with more passionate Crows fans than their crosstown rival will go a long way in helping to get his team over the line.
The Crows have only lost one game at home so far in 2025 and the Skipper says that plenty has to do with the crowd.
“The comfort of home is always nice but then also I think our crowd has gone to another level,” Dawson said.
“They’ve always been fantastic since I’ve been here, but you can tell that it does feel a bit intimidating for the opposition when they’re up and about.
“We love how passionate they are for us and we know that if we get a run-on, they’ll be right behind us.
“There’s a lot of respect between both teams and we love coming up against each other. We’ve got the home crowd this time, so it will be good to have them behind us.”
Adelaide will be looking to secure a second Showdown win for the year, after recording a five-point victory against the Power in Round Nine.
During that game, Dawson was matched up against Port utility Miles Bergman, and the Skipper said he’d relish another chance to face him again.
“He’s a great player and it’s a Showdown, so it’s those types of match-ups that you really enjoy and thrive on,” Dawson said.
“They (Port Adelaide) have a good midfield in there and we’ll have our work cut out for us, for sure.
“We’ll have plans in place and it’s not always about me as well.
“We are a group in there and I’ll do what I can to play good footy, but I’m ultimately thinking about the team and how I can help the team win.”
The Crows will enter the clash off the back of four-straight wins and although the belief was building, Dawson said players would continue to tackle each week at a time.
“We’ve always had a lot of belief, but we’ve just really narrowed the focus this year and focused on week-to-week and the belief builds from there,” Dawson said.
“As Skipper, I’ve always had belief in the group and where we can go, that hasn’t waivered at all. I’ve always thought that no matter who we were playing we can get the job done and no matter where it is.
“They don’t get much bigger than Showdown week, so for us it’s just about controlling what we can control, and our focus is on Port this week.”
Adelaide faces Port Adelaide in Showdown 58 at Adelaide Oval on Saturday at 7.40pm.
