Kuwarna has named an unchanged line-up for its Round Three clash against Greater Western Sydney at Henson Park on Saturday afternoon.
After an AFLW Club record seven-goal final term lifted Kuwarna to its first victory of the season, the coaching staff opted to back in the same group against the Giants.
Kuwarna Head of AFLW Phil Harper said continuity in selection was a big positive.
“We thought even before that last quarter blitz, our players had a fair go and it would be a matter of time before it all clicked,” Harper said.
“We probably didn’t think it would quite happen in the way it did, booting seven goals in a quarter, but the girls were really good and this line-up deserved another opportunity.
“So we are unchanged this week and happy to get some continuity in our team, especially after having the five changes last week.”
Livewire forward Danielle Ponter will celebrate her 75th game in the first of Kuwarna two AFLW Indigenous Round matches.
Harper said Ponter had a significant impact on the Club’s AFLW program throughout her career.
“She’s had to sacrifice a fair bit in her journey, leaving behind strong family ties in Darwin to move down to Adelaide and commit to her footy full time, it was a big commitment” Harper said.
“DP is such a talented player, we’ve all seen that across her 74 games, she’s kicked over a goal a game in the AFLW which is a really good effort and is right up there in the competition’s all-time leading goal-kicker race.
“She’s been a great player for our Club and even better person to have around the team, and hopefully she’s with us for many years to come.”
Kuwarna will be looking to make it back-to-back wins as it travels to Sydney’s Henson Park to take on the Giants.
“Playing any team on their home deck is a tough assignment, we like the way they attack the game and play with speed, so we’ll have to curtail that,” Harper said.
“Hopefully we can continue on the momentum from the last quarter against Geelong and get over the line against them, but it won’t be easy.”
Kuwarna takes on Greater Western Sydney at Henson Park on Saturday afternoon, with the first bounce at 12.35pm (ACST).
