Adelaide SANFL Senior Coach Matt Wright says the Crows’ final minor round win against Sturt will give his side confidence as it heads into this weekend’s qualifying final.
The Crows recorded a thrilling two-point win against the Double Blues last Saturday, ending Sturt’s previously unblemished 2025 campaign.
Speaking to the media ahead of the qualifying final against Glenelg this Sunday, Wright said the Crows had what it took to take it up to the best teams in the competition.
“Sturt has been the team to beat all year, so we were pretty proud of it on the weekend,” Wright said.
“It could’ve gone either way, to be honest. We started really well, they were fantastic through the middle part of the game, then we kicked a couple late and were able to hang on.
“They’re the type of games you want to be a part of, and we get an opportunity in the coming weeks to play a few more of those games.
“We said at the start of the year we are in this competition to win it, and we’ve provided ourselves with an opportunity to now go to work.”
Adelaide has an opportunity to test itself again - this time against reigning premiers Glenelg - and will be eyeing revenge after losing to the Tigers in Round 13.
Wright, who played in the Crows’ last SANFL finals campaign in 2023 before taking over the reins as coach, was keen to lead from the other side of the fence.
“The prelims we’ve fallen short in, I was involved in all of them, so I’m hoping with me not out there it might be a little different for us this year,” Wright said.
“It’s been an incredible opportunity, this footy Club has given me so many great opportunities to play at the highest level and come back and start my coaching career. I am forever indebted to the footy Club.
“To be out here and back in finals time… It’s exciting.
“We are excited by the challenge this week. They’ve (Glenelg) been fantastic, and whenever these two teams play each other it’s been a fantastic performance and I expect nothing less this week.”
Adelaide faces Glenelg in the qualifying final at Adelaide Oval this Sunday, with the first bounce at 3.15pm.
