Kuwarna recorded a hard-fought, 32-point win over Greater Western Sydney at Henson Park on Saturday, with high winds making scoring difficult.

But Kuwarna still managed seven majors for the match, which tipped the Club’s total AFLW goal haul to 600 – meaning they are the first-ever AFLW side to kick 600 goals.

Caitlin Gould kicked two of those seven, with singles each to Danielle Ponter, Niamh Kelly, Amy Boyle-Carr (her first AFLW goal), Anne Hatchard and Stevie-Lee Thompson.

Niamh Kelly celebrated her goal in style surrounded by teammates – an extra celebration given it was also her 30th birthday.

“It’s always good to get a ‘W’ on my birthday, and to kick a goal as well, but the goal came off all the hard work of the girls, I just got on the end of it,” she said after the game.

Kuwarna now sit 2-1 for the season – sixth on the ladder – the two wins largely achieved on the back of a big fourth term in Round Two against Geelong (7.0 kicked in the fourth stanza), and a big first quarter in Round Three against the Giants, with 4.7 kicked.

Kelly said the side was now looking for more consistency across the full four quarters.

“That is something we are absolutely aiming for now … if we can put together a strong performance across four quarters, that’s ultimately what we’re aiming for,” she said.

“Obviously in patches against the Giants on Saturday, we played some good footy, but there are some patches we will look at to get better as well.

“There’s just no time in games to switch off, so we’ll reflect on the game and hopefully come out better next week, because we have a tough game facing Brisbane.”

Kelly said the side was looking forward to playing at Norwood Oval for the first time in the 2025 season; celebrating Father’s Day, too.

The speedy utility and her defender sister, Grace, will celebrate Father’s Day in Adelaide, but their dad is back in their hometown in Ireland. However, Kelly said he would definitely be watching the season-defining clash against the Lions.

“Mum and Dad always get up in the middle of the night to watch our games, but they are coming out to visit us soon, which is very exciting,” she said.

Niamh said the side was in good shape heading into Round Four, with a united and hard-working playing group at the core.

“What I love about the group is we have great players across the whole group and there’s not one player who is doing it all,” she said.

“There’s an even spread throughout the whole team and the way the girls got around each other (on Saturday) is really special.”

Kuwarna play Brisbane at Norwood Oval on Sunday from 12.35pm (ACST).
