Adelaide has named an unchanged line-up for its Round Five clash against Hawthorn at Frankston Oval.
Despite a heartbreaking, last minute, loss to Brisbane last week, the Crows’ brainstrust has opted to back in the same 21 that led the reigning grand finalists for the majority of the contest at Norwood Oval.
Adelaide Head of Women’s Football Phil Harper said the group performed strongly last week and gave the Crows a strong opportunity to secure a crucial on-the-road victory against the Hawks.
“To give ourselves the best chance to win this week, we thought the team we had last week was the way to go,” Harper said.
“For 80 per cent of the match last week we were pretty happy with how we played, the challenge for us is to get that up closer to 100, but looking at how we’re going now you’d say we’ve improved a lot since Round One.
“Continuity is so important in footy, so for this group to get another crack at it together, it should hopefully bode well for them and give us the best chance of coming away with a win on Sunday.”
The Crows face a tough assignment this Sunday in the form of an undefeated Hawthorn outfit, as they travel to Frankston Oval for the first time in their history.
A crucial match in the context of Adelaide’s season, Harper said the girls would embrace the tag of being “underdogs.”
“Hawthorn are quality, and it’s a bit of a new challenge for us coming into the game as the underdogs,” Harper said.
“That’s something we’ll certainly embrace though and hopefully we can really take it up to one of the form teams of the competition.
“Frankston is a ground we’ve never played at, from all reports it gets quite windy down there, but we train at windy West Lakes so it should suit us.”
Adelaide faces Hawthorn at Frankston Oval on Sunday, with the first bounce at 2.35pm ACST.
