Crows utility Hannah Munyard could make an incredible return to play this AFLW season, despite breaking her ankle in Round One and being ruled out for 2025 back in August.
Munyard underwent surgery on August 18 to repair the ankle and Crows Head of AFLW Phil Harper said she had now progressed from plaster, to moonboot, to now being out of a moonboot and able to weight-bear while walking.
“She’s progressing well ahead of schedule,” Harper said.
“She’s still got some work to do now on strengthening her ankle and the ligaments surrounding it, but I’d suggest she might be ready to return to the field in about four to six weeks.
“At the time of her injury, we thought she would be out for the season, but her recovery powers have been greater than expected and she’s heading in the right direction.”
Meanwhile, Caitlin Gould underwent successful surgery to repair her broken left wrist on Monday night.
Gould broke her wrist during Sunday’s Round Five win over Hawthorn at Frankston Oval.
“The surgeon was happy with the procedure on Monday night, and we will get a better timeframe on how long she’ll be out over the next week or so,” Harper said.
“She will be laying low for the next week, but will then be able to get back into running after that.”
Chelsea Randall played Round Five in a leg sleeve after having an issue with a varicose vein in her left leg having copped knocks to her shin in the two consecutive games prior.
“Ice and elevation have improved the bruising in her leg significantly and she was able to play last week in the leg sleeve, and she’ll likely play it in again this week,” Harper said.
Meanwhile, co-captain Sarah Allan didn’t play out the final few minutes of Sunday’s Round Five clash with the Hawks after copping a knock to her right knee.
Harper said while the defender sustained a significant corky, she was expected to be fine for Thursday’s main training session and was expected to be right to play on Sunday against Gold Coast.
