Adelaide’s newest recruit Finnbar Maley has revealed a hidden talent during his first official interview as a Crow.

Maley, who was traded to Adelaide from North Melbourne in October, arrived at the Crows’ nest this week.

Ahead of starting pre-season with his new Club, the former junior basketballer said he was also a keen guitarist and singer.

“I’ve been playing guitar since I was 12,” Maley said.

“I was lucky enough that for my 21st birthday my mates all chipped in to get me a Cole Clark, which is a really cool guitar.

“I used to play to sing, but now as my music tastes have changed, now I’m playing to play.

“I don’t have a band, that would be cool, because there’s only so much you can do by yourself. But it’s something I’m pretty keen on investing time in while I’m here.”

Maley, the son of former Adelaide 36ers player and NBL legend Paul Maley, only began taking footy seriously in 2021 after deciding to cross codes from basketball.

After helping Eltham to a Northern Football Netball League Premiership, he won a contract with VFL side Northern Knights, before being drafted by North Melbourne ahead of the 2024 AFL season.

Although he had enjoyed the past two seasons with the Kangaroos, Maley said he was keen for a fresh start at another club, as he looked to further develop as a footballer and a person.

And he wasted little time getting to know his new Crows teammates, hitting the Club’s gym with them within the first few days of his arrival.

“I was super nervous to meet the boys, but the nerves were not valid,” Maley said.

“I was immediately met with open arms. All the boys are so, so nice. They took me out for breakfast, and then hung out in the gym.

“All my nerves were sort of stripped away, and I’m excited to be here in a really cool city, down by the beach

“I thought I’d better jump into it, and make good connections early and I feel like I’m already on the way. I think (it will be) a good part of my development and growth, being away from home as well, so that’s something to look forward to.”

Adelaide’s first to four-year players are set to return from their break later this month, before the remainder of the squad at the start of December.

Maley said his focus between now and then was to work on his fitness and strength, as well as continue to get acquainted with his new teammates and staff at the Crows.

“(I’ll be) training with the boys on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, getting in the gym all of those days as well, and then just trying to meet all of the other people involved in the Club and try to build a bit of a base,” Maley said.

“So I’m ready to go into pre-season and feel more settled in and comfortable.

“(I’m looking forward to) playing footy for an awesome Club, hopefully playing on Adelaide Oval, and helping us propel ourselves to win more games.”
