Three-time premiership-winning Crow Stevie-Lee Thompson has announced her retirement from AFLW.
A member of the Crows' inaugural squad, Thompson has played 97 games for Adelaide across 10 seasons, including in the Club’s 2017, 2019 and 2022 (Season Six) premierships.
Thompson was drafted to Adelaide in the 2016 AFLW Draft as a Darwin-based player (the alliance between South Australia and the Northern Territory was critical to the Crows’ early days in the AFLW).
Crows Head of AFLW Phil Harper said Thompson had left an indelible mark not only on the Club, but on the players and staff she had worked and played alongside and the AFLW industry more broadly.
“It's a sad day for us,” Harper said.
“Stevie's been with us for 10 seasons; she’s been a terrific player, been All-Australian (2019), was the League’s leading goal kicker in 2019, she’s played down back, played up forward and has always performed in the big games.
“She is the last of those inaugural Darwin players, the crew of nine who used to train up there while 18 of them trained down here in those first years
“Then eventually, to try and be as good as she possibly could be, Stevie moved down here to Adelaide, and that was a significant thing for both the team and her.
“Her contribution to our Club has been enormous over many years and we wish her all the very best for the future."
Thompson said she would forever be proud to have been an inaugural Crow and player in the AFLW.
“To have played 10 seasons for this Club, as an inaugural member of the competition, has been one of the greatest honours of my life” Thompson said.
“I’m proud of the on-field achievements - the Premierships, the milestones, and the moments we shared as a team… But what I’ll treasure most are the friendships, the support and the relationships that have shaped me along the way.
“I leave with a heart full of gratitude and excitement to watch the team and the AFLW continue to grow, always cheering them on with pride and love for this Club.”
Thompson’s retirement comes as Adelaide finalises its list changes ahead of the 2025 AFLW Draft on Monday, December 15.
