Turf could be laid at the Crows new Thebarton Oval Precinct in as little as three-to four-weeks’ time, as the $100 million development continues to take shape.
Crows Chairman John Olsen provided an update on an Adelaide radio station last week, revealing that irrigation and turf could be installed on the oval by late March.
“The oval has been realigned to the same axis as Adelaide Oval, will be the same size as Adelaide Oval, and they are currently finishing the concrete plats running around the oval and hopefully then we’ll be able to get in, in the next three-to-four weeks to be able to put the irrigation and turf in," Olsen said.
“We want to do that because we want some warm months before we get into winter for the turf to put its root-structure down and get a really good, solid hold.”
Olsen also said the project had suffered no significant budget blowout, with the Club hoping to have moved into its new homebase by the end of this year.
“The profit on an annual basis from the Club and performance on the deck with increased membership last year has given us a bit of capacity to close off a bit of a shortfall that we have there, but there’s no significant blowout in terms of the costs,” he said.
“It will be just over the $100 million mark when it’s completed.”
Adelaide supporters can make their mark on the Crows’ new home by pledging a picket to the Thebarton Oval Precinct.
Fans can donate to have their name or message etched into a plaque affixed to the pickets around the boundary of the facility’s main oval.
By pledging a picket, supporters will secure a place in history and be part of a new era for the Club.
The donation of a picket is $500 and is tax-deductable via the Australian Sports Foundation.
