Adelaide defender Jordon Butts has been entered into the AFL’s concussion protocols after presenting with delayed concussion symptoms, ruling him out of the Club’s next two games.
Butts reported mild concussion symptoms to the Crows medical team on Sunday, after suffering a head clash during the third quarter of last Thursday night’s game against Geelong.
The 26-year-old was assessed by Club doctors on and off the field during the match and undertook a Head Injury Assessment (HIA) which identified no signs of concussion.
Crows Head of Football Adam Kelly said Butts would progress through the protocols with the support of Club doctors.
“Following the head clash, our medical team removed Jordon from the field to undertake a HIA, which Jordon passed,” Kelly said.
“The AFL Review Centre (ARC) classified the incident as a discretionary review and our medical team chose to assess him on the bench.
“He displayed no symptoms the day after the game, but unfortunately on Sunday this had changed and that led to a diagnosis of delayed concussion.
“Jordon’s health and wellbeing is of paramount importance, and we stringently adhere to the AFL’s concussion protocols, which mean that he will miss at least the next two games and will continue to be assessed.”
Under the League’s protocols it will be a minimum of 12 days symptom free until Butts can return to competitive play.
