Injury Update: Round Three

Dr Jones & Partners Injury Update: R3 GM of High Performance Matt Hass updates us on this week's injuries.

Crows ruckman Sam Jacobs will miss Adelaide’s Round Three clash with Geelong this Thursday night due to a knee injury.

Jacobs will require ongoing treatment in the coming days and re-evaluation next week, when a time frame for his return will become clearer.

“Sauce has some long-standing issues in his knee that were exacerbated by a collision injury he sustained against Sydney on the weekend,” Crows General Manager of High Performance Matt Hass told AFC Media on Tuesday.

“We have to respect that he’s an older player and there is some wear and tear in there.

“Unfortunately, this week he hasn’t quite done enough to get up to play against the Cats.

“We’ll have to reassess mid-week to make sure we’re comfortable with how that’s tracking before we provide any clearer time frames on his return.”

Josh Jenkins is expected to play after overcoming a minor shoulder injury he sustained in Friday night’s game.

“JJ’s absolutely fine, he got a bump on the shoulder and had a really minor AC joint injury that required an injection to finish the match but that’s pulled up well and we expect him to be fine for Thursday,” Hass said.

With the Crows currently in the middle of back-to-back six-day breaks, Hass said the high performance team had made slight modifications to the training program.

“Obviously the back-to-back six day breaks provides us with a bit of complexity, we obviously modified training loads to a degree,” he said.

“They still had a solid hit out in the main training session this morning, but there’s obviously a big focus on recovery and regeneration.”

Rookie Kieran Strachan has entered concussion protocol after leaving the field in the third quarter of Adelaide's SANFL game on Saturday afternoon and will be assessed later in the week.
