Kuwarna recorded its best performance of the season so far with a 68-point win against North Melbourne in Sir Doug Nicholls Round at Adelaide Oval on Saturday afternoon.
There were plenty of special moments, cheeky goal celebrations, and even a special guest in the team’s inner sanctum pre and post-game.
Here’s a round up of everything you might’ve missed.
Rachele’s nod to Eddie cele
Kuwarna goalsneak Josh Rachele booted a game-high three goals on Saturday afternoon, including an incredible snap from the ‘Eddie Betts pocket’ in the final quarter.
Rachele spun out of a tackle, snapped from close to the boundary line, and the ball curled perfectly through the big sticks.
The 23-year-old then emulated Betts’ iconic celebration raising his arms to soak in the applause, and pointing to the turf.
Speaking after the game, Rachele lifted the lid on what sparked the celebration and the cheeky back and forth between a teammate.
“I surprised myself a little bit when it went through, so I got around the boys, and then I made sure to claim the pocket,” Rachele said.
“Ranks (Izak Rankine) and I are always arguing who’s pocket it is, but I think recently I’ve been putting more through the pocket, so I think I’ll claim it.
“It will always be Eddie’s pocket, but if I can borrow it for now, that would be alright.”
NBL royalty in the house
Adelaide 36ers point guard and six-time NBL MVP Bryce Cotton was in the Kuwarna changerooms to support the team pre and post-game on Saturday.
Cotton’s game day experience came after he spent time at the Kuwarna headquarters earlier in the week, watching training and chatting with the players.
The 33-year-old is currently enjoying his off-season after helping lead the 36ers to a 23-10 record this past season and the NBL playoffs
Raining goals at AO
A 10-goal-to-none second quarter set-up the big win for Kuwarna, and it was the Club's best return in a quarter since round 20, 2015.
Only six times has the Club scored more in any term in its history.
Jake Soligo started the onslaught of goals in the second term, before Skipper Jordan Dawson got on the end of one, and then Toby Murray.
James Peatling booted one three minutes later, then majors to Darcy Fogarty, Josh Rachele, Luke Nankervis, a double to Lachlan McAndrew, and another to Rachele followed.
The 10-goal quarter put Kuwarna ahead by 66 points at the main break and they never looked back.
Lairdy’s unbelievable stat
On Saturday, Kuwarna veteran Rory Laird etched himself further into footy history when he overtook Collingwood great Scott Pendlebury for the longest V/AFL streak with 15+ disposals.
Here is the current leaderboard:
240 - RORY LAIRD
239 - Scott Pendlebury
215 - Matthew Boyd
186 - Dane Swan
171 - Adam Treloar
Sir Doug Nicholls Round celebrations
The match against North Melbourne marked the first of two Sir Doug Nicholls Rounds for Kuwarna and there was lots happening at Adelaide Oval to honour our First Nations people.
Thanks to BHP, Kuwarna players presented a boomerang, crafted by local Indigenous leader Jack Buckskin to Roos players.
The gift exchange is a tradition that shows respect to the receiver, as well as to their family and ancestors.
The pre-game celebrations also featured moving pre-game First Nations cultural dances, as well as a smoking ceremony, and Welcome to Country.
Fans get inner sanctum peak
The Club gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at the team’s post-match celebrations during Crows Live.
This show, which is featured on the Club’s website, App, and YouTube, included interviews with Izak Rankine and Luke Nankervis, while assistant coach Mick Godden also provided a match analysis.
