Veteran Adelaide forward Taylor Walker has gone in-depth on the argument he presented to the AFL Tribunal in his failed attempt to have his one-match suspension for rough conduct overturned.
Walker was charged by the Match Review Officer following an incident in Thursday night’s clash against Geelong, where he appeared to push young Cats defender Connor O’Sullivan into a marking contest.
The 36-year-old challenged the suspension, and fronted the AFL Tribunal on Monday night, where the ban was ultimately upheld.
“With all the evidence that we had, we thought we had a really good case to put forward and unfortunately it didn’t go our way,” Walker told Roo, Ditts and Loz on Triple M Adelaide Breakfast.
“From (Connor) O’Sullivan and from the Geelong Football Club, they provided some evidence that they felt like his head didn’t hit (Jordan) Dawson’s body and that he pulled up really well from the bump.
“So that was our evidence and a bit more technical stuff that we thought would hold us in good stead, but in the end it didn’t.
“So I sit here very, very, very disappointed.”
The suspension put a slightly sour note on what was a memorable night for Walker and his team, as the Crows held on for a gutsy one-point win against perennial contender Geelong.
He explained what he felt worked on the night, and highlighted three teammates and the important roles they played.
“It was great to see Hugo Hall-Kahan play some good footy, the boys down back were awesome, and I thought James Peatling did a great job on Bailey Smith,” Walker said.
“Cal Ah Chee did a great job on Tom Stewart, and we were able to take our chances going forward.
“I bumped into a few people in the past few days and they all said the game was a great spectacle, and it was great to be on the end of a one-point win and not the other way.
“We set out to try and pressure Geelong, and I thought we were able to do that, the boys were outstanding on Thursday night.”
Walker also turned heads with a new Nick Daicos style haircut on Thursday night, a trim he said his mother did not approve of.
“The barber at Robbie’s Chop Shop asked me if I wanted something different and I was like ‘no I’m 36’, but then he was like ‘are you sure?’ and I gave in and said ‘just try it,’” Walker said.
“And then I got some very strong feedback on it, especially from my mother. I won’t express what she said here but she wasn’t impressed. I'll say that.”
Adelaide takes on the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium on Thursday night at 7pm (ACST).
