Adelaide skipper Jordan Dawson has been named the AFL Players’ Best Captain for the second year running.

Now in his fourth season leading the Crows, Dawson follows in the footsteps of Taylor Walker (2016, 2017) and Mark Ricciuto (2005, 2006) as a back-to-back winner of the award.

Alongside Best Captain, Dawson also won the AFL Players’ Most Courageous Player Award.

“Leading this team has always been a privilege,” Dawson said.

“While I’m sure no AFL captain does it for accolades, it is an honour to be selected by my peers especially against a really strong field of competition.

“I think a fair bit of the credit must also go to the leadership team we have and the support I receive from Alex (Neal-Bullen), Ben (Keays), Darcy (Fogarty), Reilly (O’Brien), Riley (Thilthorpe) and Isaac (Cumming).

“And to also be named Most Courageous, in what has been a really difficult year… I am extremely grateful to the AFL Players’ Association.”

Adelaide Coach Matthew Nicks said it was not a shock to see Dawson win both awards.

“I’ve said it before, Jordan epitomises leadership both at our Club and within the AFL,” Nicks said.

“Even before he was named captain, we knew exactly the quality of leader we had at the Club and the impact he would make as skipper.

“Likewise, his nod for Most Courageous is extremely well-deserved. We all know what he’s experienced away from footy this year and the immense challenge that has presented.

“To continue to lead, to compete, like he has through all of that… it sums him up as a person.

Dawson also finished third overall in the AFLPA MVP award (behind Nick Daicos and Marcus Bontempelli, respectively).
