Adelaide forward India Rasheed has revealed how a couple of high profile tennis stars helped with her Year 11 research project a few years back.

Rasheed spent much of her childhood around the world tennis circuit, where her Dad, Roger Rasheed, coached a string of former top-10 players, including Grigor Dimitrov, Lleyton Hewitt, Gaël Monfils and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Speaking on this week’s episode of the Winging It podcast, the 19-year-old said she had enlisted the help of the tennis stars for a school project, but was disappointed with her grade, given the high profile sources.

“Andy Murray, Dad’s pretty close with him, so he actually helped me with my research project in Year 11,” Rasheed said.

“That was good because I also got a B-minus.

“I had Gregor Dimitrov, he's been a top-10 player, I had Gaël Monfils, Andy Murray on this research project, (and) the guy who wrote Roger (Federer) and Raffa’s ( Rafael Nadal) books, and then I still got a B-minus, and it's all about the sources.

“Whoever marked that, justice for me because all of my sources were all good. It was about the evolution of tennis.”

Rasheed reflected on what it was like being around the world’s best tennis players and opened up on the most famous contact she has in her phone.

“Growing up in and around the tennis sanctums, I’ve just always loved tennis, walking around, being able to see some of the superstars in action, Rafa, Roger, walking past them in the hallways, things like that,” Rasheed said.

“Being a huge tennis fan, I wish I took it in a bit more, because now I look back on it… Dad would always ask me ‘do you want to get a photo with them?’

“And I always be like, ‘no, obviously not, Dad, that's silly’, but now I'm like, ‘why didn't I get a photo with them?’

“Every time Dad's players would be training with them, like if Dad's players would be hitting with Raffa or something like that, I’d be able to just sit on the court and watch them training together. 

“Gaël Monfils, I’d say (the most famous person in my contacts), he’d probably pick up, but he’d be like ‘why are you calling me?' ".

Rasheed is almost halfway into her second campaign with the Crows after being selected by Adelaide with Pick No.13 at the 2024 AFLW Draft.

The skilful forward also spent plenty of time around the South Australian football fraternity, a Port Adelaide supporter growing up, Power players became her mentors as she eyed a W career.

But since becoming a Crow, Rasheed said her allegiances have certainly changed.

“(I was) a bit of a Port supporter, a little bit passionate growing up. I hated the Crows.

“But then the second I got drafted here, then I hated Port, you girls got around me.

“It was a bit of a thing, the whole Port situation, everyone acted like I was like a father-daughter to Port or something, (but) I actually have no ties to them, I just went for them.

“Growing up, we've had a lot of like family friends and just random connections to the Port boys, so we'd always have dinners with them, like Travis Boak, who's been one of my mentors as I've gone through the (football) pathways, Robbie Gray, those boys, we just always had dinners with them.”
