Few games stir emotion in South Australian football fans like a Showdown, and Adelaide AFLW Vice Captain Eloise Jones expects this Saturday night’s clash against Port Adelaide to be no different.

The two-time premiership star has featured in all four AFLW Showdowns, and said the contests were one of the most anticipated fixtures on the calendar.

Jones said reigniting the rivalry between the crosstown rivals while showcasing the state's homegrown talent was what made the AFLW Showdown such a special occasion.

“Here in South Australia, it's a pretty big game, men's or women's,” Jones said.

“It's a really exciting opportunity. I love Showdowns, I've been very privileged to play in all of them, and they're just a great atmosphere.

“There's a lot of passion from both sides, which is fantastic. It's one that most people pencil in their calendar, and I think as a player, it's pretty cool to be able to play in those games against Port.

“The best thing is to be able to highlight SA talent as well. Both teams have got some greatly talented players who are SA born and bred, which is fantastic for our state.”

The Crows lead the win-loss ledger 3-1, but will enter Showdown V eager to atone for a defeat in last year’s match against the Power.

Although this year’s Showdown will be hosted at Alberton Oval, Jones is hoping plenty of Crows fans pack out enemy territory on Saturday night.

“Every game in AFLW is super important, and with this one, there's a little bit more emotion attached to it, which is fantastic for the state and for our Club,” Jones said.

“You obviously want to get a win over the rivals.

“We'd love to get everyone in a Crows guernsey for sure. I think if you asked anyone that question, they'd all say the same thing.

“It’s at Alberton this year, so not our home deck, but we've got a great support base, and we're really excited to get as many people as we can down here. We'd love to have as many Crows supporters and fans as we can get down.”

Adelaide will also be hoping to return to the winners’ list following a defeat against Fremantle on Sunday afternoon.

The Crows fought back hard in the second half before going down 9.6 (60) to 5.5 (35).

Jones said a focus heading into the game would be starting strongly after the Dockers took advantage of a sluggish first half on Sunday.

“We’ve probably had a little bit of inconsistencies throughout our season, we've had some great games against some great teams, and then we’ve probably just faded away,” Jones said.

“A couple of slow starts have got us done, with Freo just gone. We’ve let teams kick five goals on (us) in the first half and that’s a pretty steep hill to get back up to get over the top of.

“It’s going to be really important to start really well for us over the weekend, and that'll be a focus for us coming into the week.

“Our second half was a lot better, which is really pleasing, but I think our challenge will be to be able to start games as well as we can, and continue that through the rest of the game.”

The Crows face the Power in Showdown V at Alberton Oval on Saturday at 6.45pm.
