Experienced duo Chelsea Biddell and Sarah Goodwin have committed their long-term futures to Adelaide, signing multi-year deals to stay in the tri-colours until at least 2030.
Key defender Biddell and emerging midfielder Goodwin were both contracted until the end of 2027 but have signed three-year extensions to remain part of the new era of the Crows.
Biddell, 28, has played 86 games since debuting for Adelaide in 2020, collecting a Premiership medal in 2022 as well as three All-Australian blazers, the Club’s 2025 Best Defensive Player award and last year’s Club Champion runner-up honour.
This season has seen Biddell continue her strong form averaging 15.9 disposals, 3.2 spoils and 2.5 intercept marks – all of which sit above her career averages.
Biddell, who has been in the side’s leadership group for the past two seasons, said she committed to a long-term deal because of the exciting future ahead for the team and the Club as a whole.
“The Club took a chance on me when I was 20 when I didn’t really know if I would ever get an opportunity to play football, and they’ve really looked after me ever since,” Biddell said.
“As I look to the future, I love the direction we’re heading in, with the young players and staff we have around us. Then, the fact that we’re moving into our new headquarters at Thebarton is really exciting and hopefully we can turn it into a bit of a fortress for us.
“There is nowhere else I’d rather be playing my footy.”
Goodwin, 22, has played 57 AFLW games, 52 of those for the Crows after beginning her career with Port Adelaide in Season Seven (2022) before being traded to West Lakes.
This season has seen her cement her place in Adelaide’s midfield, averaging career-high statistics of 19.7 disposals, 3.8 clearances and 4.5 tackles per game.
The 2024 AFLPA AFLW 22Under22 member said it was an easy decision to re-commit to the Crows, with the Club building under new coach Ryan Davis and preparing to relocate to its new facility at Thebarton.
“I love the Club,” Goodwin said. “I grew up a Crows supporter, so to be able to pull on the jumper is an honour that I never take for granted.
“I’m stoked firstly about what we’re building together as a team and, secondly, my role playing more minutes in the midfield.
“I’m so keen to keep playing more football with this team.”
Crows Executive General Manager AFLW Bree Brock said the Club was thrilled to have the experience, flair and leadership qualities of the much-loved teammates for at least the next four seasons.
“Chelsea and Sarah both play crucial roles for our team week-in, week-out and are the types of footballers upon which success is built,” Brock said.
“For Chelsea, she continues to thrive as one of the competition’s premier key defenders.
“After finishing in the top five of the past five Club Champion counts, Chelsea is continuing to take her football to new heights this year and it’s been pleasing to also see her thrive in her leadership role, becoming a mentor to our young defenders and setting standards on and off the field.
“Sarah is the quiet achiever of our team who lets her football do the talking and we’ve seen her flourish as a permanent midfielder this year thanks to the hard work she puts into her craft, fitness and footy IQ.
“She is relentless in her pursuit to be the best footballer she can be and we saw the results of that last year when she finished fourth in our Club Champion count. We can’t wait to see where Sarah takes her game in the future.”
