Adelaide co-captain Taylor Walker is calling on the AFL to give more support to the struggling Gold Coast Suns.

The Queensland side suffered its second 90-point loss in two weeks against the Crows on Saturday and drew the criticism of former Lions captain Jonathon Brown.

Walker told Triple M’s Roo & Ditts the AFL should be pushing for senior players to guide the Suns’ young core.

“I don’t think draft picks are going to help,” Walker said.

“What I would say is I’d like the AFL to help them get some experienced players because I did feel for some of the young kids.

“It’s not what the AFL is about, getting beaten by 100 points consecutive weeks.”

Walker pointed to Luke Hodge and Brisbane as a prime example of an experienced player having a strong impact on a young group.

“The way he’s gone up to Brisbane, you’d imagine he’s helped with their success this year,” Walker said.

“To see a guy like that go up there and help develop those kids... it would go a long way for their (Gold Coast’s) success.”

Brisbane sit third on the ladder after a 48-point win over Port Adelaide on Sunday.

Power vice-captain Hamish Hartlett congratulated members of the opposition after the match, saying they were a chance for the premiership.

When asked his thoughts about the praise, following a loss, Walker said he was “all for that”.

“Good on him, (it’s) honesty and sportsmanship,” Walker said.

“It wasn’t a deep conversation, he just paid credit when credit was due.

The Crows will host an open training session at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday from 9.30am.
