A midfielder who rocketed into top 10 calculations over the past six weeks
Jones was an All Australian at the AFL Under-18 Championships where he averaged 21.5 disposals (10.8 contested), 6.8 tackles and 5.2 loose ball gets per game for the Allies.
In the opening round of the carnival against Vic Country, he collected 27 disposals, 16 contested possessions, five clearances, seven tackles, five inside 50s and booted two goals.
Jones also made an impact for the AFL Academy against North Melbourne’s VFL side in April and captained Tasmania to an Academy series premiership in May.
At the Draft Combine, Jones finished top two for running vertical jumps on both feet and recorded top ten finishes in kicking, standing vertical jump and agility. He also ran a sub-three second 20m sprint and finished second in the 2km time trial with a time of 6:05.
The Tasmanian played seven senior games for Launceston this year, two of which were finals. Remarkably, Jones finished second in the League’s Player of the Year award despite only playing five regular season games, recording votes in each of his games including three consecutive best-on-ground performances.
At Launceston, he was coached by Sam Lonergan, who recently took over as coach of Woodville West Torrens in the SANFL.
