Crows rookie Maisie Nankivell has been put on Adelaide’s inactive list for the 2020 AFLW season after being offered a contract at SA netball club, the Adelaide Thunderbirds.

The 20-year-old juggled both football and netball in the 2019 season, making her AFLW debut in Round One.

At the same time, Nankivell was also a training partner for the Thunderbirds, making her Suncorp Super Netball debut in Round Four and going on to play seven games.

Her on-court efforts earned her an upgrade from training partner to contracted player for 2020, meaning she will be unable to commit to both sports next year.

Crows General Manager Football Administration Phil Harper said the decision was bittersweet for Nankivell.

“Maisie has taken another step towards achieving her childhood dream of playing professional netball, but it also means she’s unable to juggle both sports again in 2020,” Harper said.

“We support Maisie’s full-time commitment to netball.

“Maisie will continue to be a part of our Club and we will sit down and revisit her sporting and career goals late next year.”

Nankivell is the second Crow to be placed on the inactive list for the 2020 season, with midfielder Hannah Martin also unable to play next year after rupturing her ACL in July.

Adelaide will receive two extra picks in the upcoming 2019 AFLW Draft on Tuesday, October 22 to cover the two players.
