Adelaide star Rory Sloane says the historic State of Origin for Bushfire Relief game will unite the football industry to raise vital funds for bushfire-ravaged communities.

Sloane has put his hand up to pull on the Big V and represent Victoria when it takes on the All Stars at Marvel Stadium on February 28.

The 29-year-old's outstanding CV suggests he's a strong chance to earn selection for the special encounter.

An All-Australian in 2016, the tenacious midfielder is a two-time Malcolm Blight medallist and finished runner-up in the Crows' best and fairest last year.

While the concept of having the game's elite players square off is a tantalising prospect, Sloane – who is expected to captain the Crows this year having shared the duties with Taylor Walker last season – said the significance of the one-off event was much bigger than football.

"I'm a proud Victorian and always watched the State of Origin games growing up," Sloane told AFL.com.au.

"You've got all your favourite players pulling on a guernsey and playing on the one team, it's pretty cool to watch, but it's much less about that and more about doing something really good for what's been a tough year for these communities.

"It's a game that can unite a whole industry."

Sloane predicted the game would be played in the right spirit as players did what they could to help out those doing it tough.

"It's an unbelievable way to raise some much-needed funds and awareness for what has been a pretty awful summer for a lot of communities," he said.

"Fans have been crying out for Origin for years and they'll finally get to see the Vics in action."

While it's been a "very long time" since he's pulled the pads on, Sloane is ready to dust them off and have a hit in the Bushfire T20 Showdown at Adelaide Oval on February 2.

The Crows will take on crosstown rival Port Adelaide to raise funds for the South Australia Bushfire Appeal, with both clubs wanting to get the edge over the other.

"I guarantee there will still be plenty of lip," Sloane said.

"We have to mic a couple of blokes up because there will be some funny comments made.

"You'll still get a feel for that rivalry out on the ground."

Another passion of Sloane's is the #Bookthemout campaign, which is encouraging visitors to return to Kangaroo Island and the Adelaide Hills to revitalise businesses that rely on tourism to survive.

"It's important everyone gets back into these areas once the fires settle down and help out these communities," he said.

The Crows AFL and AFLW teams will take time out of their busy pre-seasons to meet their supporters at the Crows Fan Fair at the Adelaide Showgrounds on Tuesday from 5-7pm.
