A number of players used last week’s bye as a chance to head home for a few days, but another group of thrill-seeking Crows headed over to Port Lincoln for an adrenalin-filled adventure.

Sam Jacobs, Jarryd Lyons, Cam Ellis-Yolmen and Port Lincoln product Eddie Betts visited the coastal town as part of the CRT Country Crows program. The quartet held a coaching clinic for local juniors and stayed on to go shark cage diving. Sauce’s partner Izzy and Eddie’s partner Anna and son Lewis joined the boys on the day-long cruise.

The boat ride proved to be a bigger challenge for the group than the Great Whites, with everyone feeling the effects of choppy conditions. But it was well worth the trip, as the group was fortunate enough to see 7-8 sharks, including a five-metre female, in their natural habitat. The boys described the experience as “awesome” and a “must do” for your bucket list.

Rory Sloane was very happy not to spot any sharks in his break. Sloaney made a quick trip to Melbourne to make his Footy Show debut, but spent the rest of the time in South Australia, including a day in the surf on the Yorke Peninsula.

Sloaney also joined Scott Thompson in spending time behind the wheel of a truck over the break, as the pair work towards their heavy vehicle licence with a long-term view of joining the fire department.

Patrick Dangerfield made his traditional bye-week trip back to Moggs Creek. However, the moon boot protecting his sore ankle prevented him from doing any surfing or fishing during his stay.

Daniel Talia and Josh Jenkins also went back to their native Victoria, but were forced to go via Canberra after their flight to Melbourne was re-routed due to an issue at Tullamarine Airport. The pair made it to Melbourne eventually and used the time to catch up with family and friends.

Josh’s new puppy ‘AJ’ didn’t make the trip. Fortunately, Crows teammate Richard Douglas was on hand to babysit the husky when Josh’s partner was unable to.

Ruckman Jack Osborn also went on an expedition, taking part in a few fays of the Operation Flinders trip to the far northern Flinders Ranges. Osborn acted as a mentor for the world-leading charitable program for young offenders and young people at risk.
