Young Adelaide defender Fischer McAsey is set to play his first game of AFL football.

The 19-year-old, who was selected with Pick No.6 in the 2019 National Draft, was told by coach Matthew Nicks during a gym session on Thursday.

“You’re in,” Nicks told the 197-cm key defender.

“I’m so proud of what you’ve done and I know your mum and dad will be (as well).

“Enjoy it.”

McAsey will pair up with veteran defender Daniel Talia, who has taken the young Crow under his wing, according to Nicks.

“He’s like his little brother,” Nicks told AFC Media.

“(They’re) very similar in the way they play their footy and the way they go about it.

“You often see them sitting together just talking through it, sliding magnets around.

“We’ve pretty much got an extra coach there in Tals.”

Adelaide will name its full side on Thursday evening at 5.55pm ACDT.

The Crows are scheduled to face the Swans at 4.05pm on Saturday with reduced 16-minute quarters. The game will be live on Channel 7 Adelaide, Fox Sports and Kayo.
