The Adelaide Football Club is now independent of the SANFL.

The Club’s sub licence with the SANFL, along with the AFL’s licence to field our team, have both been annulled.

Crows chairman Rob Chapman said the agreement reflected the Club’s desire to control its destiny.

The SANFL has owned Adelaide’s AFL licence since 1991, when the Club was formed by the SANFL to enter the national competition.

The Club will now have a direct relationship with the AFL in regard to terms and conditions of the Club’s right to participate at the elite level.

"This is quite a monumental occasion,” Chapman said.

“Independence is the natural evolution for our Club.

“That said we will continue to work closely with all parties to ensure the best interests of South Australian football are at the forefront of everyone’s thinking.

“We were formed by, and have lived under the control of the SANFL for 23 years.

“Effective today we stand on our own two feet and will operate independently.”

This transition also requires the development of a new and independent constitution, and allows for a self-appointed Board with membership-voted presence.

Adelaide also intends to remain based at AAMI Stadium.

The Crows will have permanent change room facilities at Adelaide Oval.

“Our football department will spend most of the week at West Lakes alongside our administration and function areas,” Chapman said.

“On game day, of course, Adelaide Oval is our home.”
