'Crushers' inspire, inspired
Live for the moment is philosophy the Crows' "Crushers" group has learned from their visit to the Phoenix Society.
All work came to a standstill as the fifteen Crows first and second year players converged on the Phoenix site at Torrensville.
The Phoenix Society is an employer of more than 450 people with disabilities in South Australia, operating a range of commercial businesses that provide outstanding opportunities for the development of disabled people within the community.
Promising Crows midfielder Chris Knights, who was the instigator behind the visit by the Crusher group, said the it was all about getting the younger players out into the community and meeting their supporters.
"We heard it was a footy mad environment here and we wanted to come and thank them for their support," Knights said.
"Their attitude to life is inspiring and as young players we can learn a great deal from them.
"I know this is a special day that the Phoenix employees won't forget, but we, as players, have also found it very rewarding."
Phoenix CEO Mr Ian Terry said he was sure the visit would have a profound effect on how the Crushers approached their career, both football and beyond, as nothing can be taken for granted in life.
Mr Terry, an avid Power supporter, was so caught up in the excitement and emotion of the visit, he reluctantly donned a Crows jumper, much to the amusement and deafening applause of the players and Phoenix employees.
The Adelaide Crows outsource a range of services to the Phoenix Society including membership communications and lottery telemarketing.
