Simon Says (In-Flight Newsletter, Jul-Aug 06)…G'day kids Simon Goodwin here!Well hasn’t this year been fantastic for the Adelaide Crows so far?We have had fantastic on-field success, with the boys sitting high on the AFL ladder and really playing to our full potential. It has been hard work on the training track as well, and we hope to see even better results as we work our way towards the finals! We have quite a few home games coming up, so see if you can get along to AAMI Stadium to show your support.Off the field the Adelaide Football Club has been setting plenty of records, thanks to our faithful Crows Nest members! We have achieved our record amount of Crows Nest Junior Members, with the number well above 4,000. We have also become the first AFL club in history to pass 50,000 members, which is fantastic. Our 50,000th member was Sean Conroy, who was lucky enough to go into the Crows rooms before and after our match against Geelong, receive season tickets for his family next year and his very own Guernsey with 50,000 on the back!Kids, we hope that you have enjoyed attending our matches. The players think it is terrific when thousands of boys and girls pack into the stands and cheer us on.On behalf of the Adelaide Crows we would like to thanks our wonderful Crows Nest members for their support. A special welcome to the kids have recently signed up, and a really big THANKYOU to our loyal young members who sign up year after year. Your support is a major reason for our club being as successful as it is, and you guys are such an important part of our club.Have you seen Claude the Crow at your school yet? Keep an eye out for Andrew Montesi and Matthew Duldig with our trusty mate Claude who run the Hungry Jacks “Crows In Schools” program daily.Kids, don’t forget about the Crows Nest Coaching Clinic on the 6th of August! The players are ready to teach you all their skills as well as sign a few autographs on the day. Make sure you register via the In-Flight Newsletter. Remember, the Crows Nest Coaching Clinic is exclusive to Crows Nest Junior Members only!Once again, thanks for your terrific support and remember to keep on cheering for the mighty Adelaide Crows!GoodyOther stuff:You can check out the photos from this year's Crows Nest Sausage Sizzle by clicking the link at the bottom of the page. The Academy is designed to provide young people aged between 12 and 16 with an insight into what it takes to become an AFL footballer.Former Hawthorn and Crows legend Darren Jarman facilitated the event and focused on skills on each of the three mornings at Max Basheer Reserve. After skills, the squad of 75 boys returned to the Crows Shed for a series of theory and practical lessons including nutrition with Nick Wray, forward line strategies with Crows Assistant Coach David Noble, a question and answer session with Senior Coach Neil Craig, weights with Scott Baker, observation of a Crows training session and a tour of the facilities, balancing football and study with former players Andrew Crowell and Matthew Robran, defensive strategies with Assistant Coach Paul Hamilton, fitness and rehabilitation with Trevor Jacques and recruiting with Phil Harper. It was a rare opportunity for the excited group, who had the chance to mix with the experts and learn valuable skills which could prove important as they strive for their goals. Also included in the three half-days at the Academy was an exclusive Academy t-shirt each, morning tea and lunch each day and a professional photo of the group by Academy Photography. The 5AA Darren Jarman/Crows Football Academy was an enormous success.
