Matthew Rendell has publicly apologised for his comments regarding indigenous footballers.

And the former Crows recruiting manager has also told fans to stop “slagging off the football club” in an interview on radio station TripleM.

"I publicly apologise sincerely for causing them any offence," said Rendell, who wants to personally apologise to AFL community engagement manager Jason Mifsud and national multicultural program manager Ali Fahour for comments he made in a meeting at the Adelaide Football Club in early February.

“My sole intention during the discussion was really to help solve and not offend.

“Obviously, they (Mifsud and Fahour) have taken offence.

"It is a fair time after the discussion took place, but that is irrelevant.

Hopefully, they will accept my apologies."

Rendell said he was also upset by criticism of the Crows’ handling of the issue.

“It’s a fantastic football club ... they’ve made no error here, I made the errors,” he said.

“They did what they had to do and they did the right thing.

“I would like people to please enjoy the Adelaide Football Club, they are back on the way up.

I don’t want people to be slagging off at the Club, they’ve done absolutely nothing wrong there.

"I’ve caused the offence, not the Club.”
