The Crows have been overlooked for compensation for the loss of midfielder Chris Knights, who joined Richmond on the first day of the AFL’s Free Agency period earlier this month.

An unrestricted free agent, Knights was free to join any club of his choice without Adelaide having an opportunity to match the rival club's offer. He joined the Tigers, where former housemate Ivan Maric landed in trade week last October.

The compensation, determined by the AFL, was based on a formula and takes into consideration a club's net and losses throughout the Free Agency period.

Knights, 26, played 96 career games in eight years at Adelaide but only five matches this season.

The AFL's ruling:

Under the Rules for Free Agency, a club is not automatically entitled to compensation for the loss of a player but can be compensated for any net loss of free agents to other clubs in the competition, based on the new contract offer to the player (which reflects his position within all contracted players within the competition) and his age.

All compensation selections allocated today must be used at the upcoming 2012 NAB AFL Draft, to be held on the Gold Coast on Thursday November 22. Clubs have the right to trade these compensation selections through the remainder of the Gillette AFL Trade Period.

It had been determined that the following clubs would receive the following compensation Draft Selections, and a REVISED order for the Draft is attached. Please note this revised order takes into account the trades that have been made so far during the Trade Period:

St Kilda - Round One selection (Brendon Goddard).
