Adelaide has suffered a 48-point loss to Norwood in Matthew Wright’s 100th SANFL game.

Adelaide led by one point at quarter time on Saturday afternoon but a run of six consecutive Redlegs goals between the second and third quarters set up a 12.20 (92) to 6.8 (44) Norwood win.

Responding from AFL omissions Will Hamill, Andrew McPherson and Billy Frampton each had an influence on the game.

Hamill had 30 disposals and took 10 marks, while McPherson finished with 27 disposals, Frampton kicked three goals and took nine marks (five contested) and Jackson Hately had 18 disposals and laid 11 tackles.

McPherson, Hately and Oliver Davis enjoyed bright starts to the match, which helped the Crows to early goal scoring opportunities, but Norwood booted the first two goals of the game through tall forward Jackson Callow (who finished with 3.7).

It was a perfect day for football, but players struggled to keep their feet and captalise on inside 50m entries.

Wright, who played 159 AFL matches with Adelaide and Carlton between 2011 and 2018, said he had enjoyed his journey as the SANFL Crows leader since 2019.

He had previously played almost 70 SANFL matches with North Adelaide.

“It is a special milestone because we have the kids (Theodore, 2, and Oliver) and nephews running around at games now, so it’s great for them to be involved and they love coming to the footy,” he said

“The club has been awesome this week to celebrate the milestone and it has been nice to reflect on my footy – I am loving my time here and leading this team.

“I had a good run playing AFL and to come back and play this leadership role has been rewarding and I am very grateful for the role and the club.”

The captain finished with 20 disposals, and is averaging 19 disposals and a goal this year.

The Crows will look to bounce back next Saturday when they travel to Glenelg to face the in-form Tigers at ACH Group Stadium.
