Midfielder Sam Berry has been ruled out of this weekend’s game against Collingwood under the AFL’s concussion protocol.

Berry was involved in a collision in a marking contest in the second quarter of Sunday’s loss to Richmond at GIANTS Stadium and was subbed out of the game due to concussion at half-time.

He will now be subject to clinical assessment in line with the AFL’s concussion protocol before being eligible to return to play.

Defender Daniel Talia has had a setback with his rehabilitation from surgery in April to remove a bone spur in his foot which was causing inflammation of a tendon.

“In the past week Daniel has experienced soreness from over-ground running and as a result his timeline to return to play is now less certain,” Head of Football Adam Kelly said.

“Though still dependant on how well his foot responds to treatment it is anticipated that this has set his progress back by a couple of weeks. It is an unfortunate setback which is frustrating for Daniel and the Club and fingers crossed we will still see him play a meaningful part towards the end of the season.”

Lachlan Murphy is making pleasing progress after surgery on a syndesmosis injury he suffered in Round 8.

Murphy has moved out of a moon boot and will look to commence running on the Alter-G treadmill in the next week.

Tom Lynch is also making steady progress after toe surgery and is expected to run on the Alter-G treadmill in coming days.

Lachlan Gollant will also resume training with the group this week as part of his rehabilitation from a finger tendon rupture in March.

Gollant will look to increase his training loads in coming weeks with a return to being available for selection in the next month.

“Lachie has really made some positive strides through his rehabilitation and made some significant gains with some of the strength work he’s been able to do, and pleasingly he’s due to rejoin the main group today,” Kelly said.

Matt Crouch has also reintegrated into the program after 10 days recuperating at home following groin surgery.
