Adelaide has selected highly-skilled 19-year-old Patrick Parnell from Albury in New South Wales with Pick 4 in Wednesday night’s AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

At 178cm, the versatile Parnell has been playing with the Murray Bushrangers in the NAB League and Albury Tigers in the Ovens and Murray League and can play at either end of the ground.

He is considered an elite kick on both sides of his body, shows composure under pressure, an ability to generate run and carry and make good decisions.

Parnell was Adelaide’s only selection in the mid-season draft and recruiting manager Hamish Ogilvie said the teenager would add pace and skill to the Crows’ squad.

“We approached this year’s mid-season draft with a medium to long-term view rather than addressing any specific need for the second half of this season,” Ogilvie said.

“We have drafted on talent and see Patrick as having the potential to develop his game and play a role for us.

“He has been playing for the Murray Bushrangers and his kicking efficiency has been a standout in that competition, his disposal efficiency has been 86 per cent in the NAB League this season, so we look forward to him joining us.”

Parnell is expected to arrive in Adelaide via Sydney in the coming days.
