A developing ruckman hailing from South Bendigo, Strachan won back-to-back best and fairest awards, playing six games over two years at VFL level. Adelaide decided to offer the athletic big man a chance at the next level and Strachan was selected with pick seven in the 2018 Rookie Draft. After learning his forward craft in the 2019 SANFL season, Strachan made his AFL debut in Round Nine, 2020. The ruckman took out the 2021 State League Club Champion Award following a consistent SANFL season and again in 2022. Strachan also signed a contract extension, keeping him at the Club until at least the end of 2025.
