Nankervis was selected by Adelaide at the 2021 Pre-Season Draft as an agile half-forward, but his athleticism, agility and fast hands led him to switching to defence in 2023. Nankervis' Dad Paul, was on Melbourne Football Club’s under-19 list in the 1980s and enjoyed a long career at Ormond in the Victorian Amateur Football Association. Nankervis also represented the Bentleigh Football Club in the Southern Football League where he won an under-16 premiership. The defender made his AFL debut in Round 19 2023, against Melbourne at the MCG, after an impressive run of form in the SANFL, where he averaged 18.5 disposals, 6.4 marks and 2.9 rebounds inside defensive 50. He went on to play in Round 20, 21 and 22.
