Championship-winning netball coach and SA Football Commissioner Jane Woodlands-Thompson has been appointed to an advisory panel to determine the Adelaide Football Club’s next Women’s Senior Coach.

Woodlands-Thompson assisted the Crows in their successful bid for an inaugural AFLW licence in 2016, and played a part in the appointment of Bec Goddard as the Club’s first Senior Coach.

It proved an inspired choice with Goddard delivering a premiership and being instrumental in establishing Adelaide’s women’s program.

Woodlands-Thompson will be joined by Crows General Manager Football Administration Phil Harper, Board Director and South Australia Police Assistant Commissioner Linda Fellows and AFLNT High Performance Manager Wally Gallio on the current panel.

The Senior Coach role will have oversight of the Club’s AFLW program and be responsible for all facets of coaching, player development, leadership and strategic planning.

The role will also encompass a development and strategy component with the Club’s Next Generation Academy and other community programs to assist the Crows to continue to develop local talent and grow the women’s game.

The position will be offered on a full time basis, however part time may be considered.

Crows Head of Football Brett Burton said the Club was encouraging Expressions of Interest for the position from internal and external candidates.

“This is a significant role and we are looking for someone with the relevant experience, knowledge and skills to continue to develop our women’s program both on and off the field,” Burton said.

“We’ll be undertaking a thorough process to get the best candidate available and ensure the women and girls involved with our Club continue to progress and excel.”

The Crows AFLW team is in partnership with AFLNT, with players based in Adelaide and Darwin.

The League is yet to determine the format of next year’s competition, which will increase to 10 teams with the addition of Geelong and North Melbourne.
